South of Hells Womb and across the Sea of Mourning is the rainy, hot and humid region called Ma'Ohari. Mountain ranges of the interior surround vast swamps and rivers maze through deep jungles.
In the Lith-Crillion Era, the demon empire Varelay ruled much of eastern Ma'Ohari; sector Tha'lith. Varelay was always busy with massive state projects, embroiled in wars, or going through period of civil unrest and purges. The empire's demon leaders kept the population busy. One of things they did to keep them in a state of toil was digging and mining. There were deep mines made for no other purpose than to keep the people busy and tired. The massive mining operation east of Mughakh-Gol, called project Fez Namex 12, continued unabated for two centuries. It caused such environmental destruction that it changed the eruption cycles of the area's three volcanoes. The increased activity of these volcanoes caused earthquakes, ash storms, lava flows, and a lot of environmental damage on the surface and below. This cataclysmic period was the Varelay Upheaval (2608 LE - 16 HE), an event that caused the marsh Styming to become a lake, Gurutharni went from being mostly jungle to mostly swamp, and led to the sinking of the Tilnangau capital.
The wastes of Malephar, once the heart of the Varelay Empire, are today ruled by Goth-Dyvermoir. They lay claim the area, but do not fully control it. Travellers of Malephar that survive the magma, heat, and smoke have to deal with roaming fire elementals, Gol'hakh, the occasional scion of the Reds of Kilth, packs of hell hounds, or marauding fire giants.
In the First Epoch, a victim of the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203), the Burterinii empire resettled along the region's northeastern coasts. This area is one of wide and windswept plains with black volcanic dirt. Zaura's farms and pastures led to Burterinii becoming the breadbasket for the entire region, with trade flowing north to Brucrumus and into the Buccaneer Archipelago.
In the Second Epoch, following imperial expansion doctrines, Ivory Asylum established a colony on Ma'Ohari's western coasts; in sector Anutoth. From Tâchumâz, they expanded north, adding Salandirik to their list of holdings. While all this was happening, pirate bases along the northern coasts were profiting from their neighbor's heavy trade. Pirate holds like Raci-Tuc and Ren-Jorusk grew out of their lawless beginnings, becoming independent city-states.
In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1504), Ivory Asylum lost its Ma'Ohari colonial holdings. They and the pirate holds became property of the Kingdom of Bloodtusk. They would change hands again in the Burterinii-Bloodtusk War (1795 - 1800). After this conflict, rule of many of the region's western holds returned to much how it had been before the arrival of Ivory Asylum.
The Underdark region beneath Ma'Ohari is called Dhark Bolg.
