|Type||notable families and family groups of the realm
In their early tribal past, many people had first names only and perhaps a title. As their populations increased, some sought a sense of identity so they commonly adopted their tribal name as their last names. As time went on, tribes were adsorbed by others and came to have many people of varying last names. Some family names like Hama-Ulmar, Malêth-Zandân, and Phenul-Tamrâk are conjunctions of two different tribes. This means that a name like Hama-Ulmar comes from the name of the Hama tribe and that of the Ulmar tribe. This usually came about because one tribe never held complete dominance over its people, so it was customary to take both tribal names and use them as one last name.
