Kolmgar is a ruin near the northern edge of Morteban. It was built by earth giants with bloodlines tracing back to the workforce and soldiers that served Hettar in the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE) . These giants erected a colossal citadel atop the towering plateau Onvargard.

In the Demon Spawn War (8972 GE - 9493 GE), Kolmgar sought to stay out of the conflict as much as possible. When Demogorgon's forces were being pushed back by those under archangel Avandra, only then did Kolmgar's forces take an active role. They sided with those of the Covenant, but only for as long as the demons were a threat to the local area, and they had a high chance of winning.

After the Demon Spawn War, Kolmgar's population expanded and became more diverse. In the Lith-Crillion Era, Kolmgar was one of two powerful city-states of the Tribe Steppes; the other their chief rival Jofgried. These two city-states were often bitter rivals for the land and Aslagni's plentiful game.

In the Horgon Era, Kolmgar fell to the Gadstill Dynasty. It remained a vassal city-state of this Titan Empire for nearly four centuries. After the fall of Gadstill Dynasty, Kolmgar was once again an independent city-state.

In the First Epoch, the city began to suffer from attacks by the Jara Khans and their hordes. By the second century of the First Epoch, Kolmgar had become a desolate ruin.

Late in the Third Epoch, the dragon cult Vith Alok started rebuilding parts of this great ruin. The 17th Dragon Headmaster, Drog'paagol, selected this place for a potential new headquarters after troubles with the leadership of the Orchish Empire. When he was evicted from the bowels of Fort Hellstorm, Drog'paagol moved the Cult's headquarters to Kolmgar. This place with its giant-sized halls, chambers, and chimneys are a much better headquarters for the Cult's dragons and other great beasts.
