In 410, the red dragon Bothorthesh founded the empire Thashangriel. This name was taken in tribute to a great red wyrm that once laired in the area of Kii Nev. When Bothorthesh and her retinue of salamanders conquered the northern part of Kii Nev, they united the squabbling tribes of firenewts - mostly by force and fear. Her salamander minions became her military governors. In its early years, the empire was wracked with civil wars and military coups. These coups were usually a result of Muneyd'vith generals seeking to gain higher positions in the empire's chaotic hierarchy. By 640, they had unseated the salamanders and themselves became the military governors.
Thashangriel tends to be a nation of evil and corruption. The empire serves the whims of red dragons, who in turn are served by Muneyd'vith governors, generals, and other satraps. In Thashangriel, rule has always been by the strongest and most cunning.
Thashangriel controls Kii Nev north of the Laroroons. The volcanic lands south of these mountains are controlled by petty fire giant kingdoms. Thashangriel also claims territory as far as the Hokzii Stov, though this is contested by the Tulukhan. The northern border of Thashangriel ends at Kesk Lein.
There are many shou pirates in this empire. These are predominately at the port city of Ag Staaz. The pirates mostly prey on the shipping of the Khazarkar Empire and the Shounejo. As a result of Thashangriel's protecting the pirates, Ag Staaz is continuously harassed by the Dazi Tetzezan.
Thashangriel's current ruler is Empress Tolun'drand, the Earth Burner, an ancient red dragon.
