The end of the Demon Spawn War (8972 GE - 9493 GE), saw the disbanding of the Covenant armies. One of these Coveant soldiers was a general named Lolth. She gave up her special "angelic" status, becoming a mortal. She wanted to rule her people, the Drow, building a following and a Church along the way.
Founder of this first drow empire, Lolth reigned for four centuries. As Empress Lolth Thiliorúth, she began the Drow tradition of keeping an empire's name unchanged until it has fallen to ruin. By the time she left for her higher calling, a fledgling empire of 30,000 ex-soldiers, her "Ebon Legions" had been turned into a civilian populace ten times that.
When Lolth ascended on 9 Brighstar 401 LE, leaving the realm of mortals, Thiliorúth was left leaderless. No line of succession, it is said their former leader left a single note:
May the strongest win.
- Lolth
Jockeying for power, civil war ensued. Some factions were chased out, others wiped out. Known as the First Splintering of Thiliorúth, in 411 LE, nearly a thousand Drow left their home world of Kriav for another. After passing through a feywild fuse, arriving on the world of Bal-Kriav, they resettled the Covenant ruin of Tyelmantar.
