In the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), this area was an enormous labor camp under brutal demon guards. A holding of Athroond, demon lord and master of the region around for hundreds of years, he simply named it the Slave Pen. It was a cover for a very profitable operation, for sited behind a series of treacherous cliffs, part of the area known as Raefknar, slaves toiled endlessly, mining iron, gold, and gemstones. With high corruption, demon overseers looking to get rich, slaves died in the tens of thousands.

In 465 HE, a mining company out of Vynnendar sent prospectors east to the Cthorgo Sea, then down the Mind-Dûn and west across the Green Nebulous. They followed an ancient Covenant map to mines forgotten and sealed off. With earth elementals and thousands of workers they reopened two of the five passages to Slave Pen. One was where slaves never entered, and the other to Athroond's legendary mines.

In 1035, colonists of this city founded the Orryn settlement.

In 1443, Slave Pen fell to the army of Dvr'jiss Jagg. Made a vassal city-state of Yastorogg, Dvr'jiss's first act was putting the population to work. To retain their citizenship, they were put to work on the three passages closed since the time of Athroond. Once these were opened, half of the population was moved to the old slave yards, and the now vacant areas became the home of Yastorogg's less desirable elements and a large garrison.
