In 1475, the Black Tide moved their armies to the head of Khilag-Tarkin bringing the Black Tide War to the Lands of Purity. Along a rugged valley and into the Marrow Fields, the Breached Pass Campaign was a series of battles between the forces of good and the forces of evil.
Nearly one hundred thousand troops in defensive positions battled many legions of undead, with units falling and rising on the morrow as new soldier of the Black Tide. Battle journals say the nights were even more horrific than the day, ghouls feeding on the wounded, and ghosts deepest dugouts. As the weeks and months passed, the undead legions of the Black Tide grew in size as they slowly reduced the armies of the Farinteen Alliance.
They don't need to sleep, their not bothered by the weather, no need for big supply lines, most of them don't eat, and none have to drink water. They have no feelings of a better place, an undead legion is a terror to face.
- Onkar, "a letter from the front"
In the last day of the first month of conflict, the battlefields of the Marrow Fields and Khilag-Tarkin were bathed in a blood red glow. A divine blessing, the Parry of Ares, steeled the hearts of the holy. The earth also turned a dark red and is still that way centuries after this battle.
In waning days of Warper, the Black Tide marshaled their forces for one great push. Commanding the right wing of the attackers was Pinth Blackstrike and his Bloodbeard mercenary army. The left wing was led by Katrana aboard a huge spider-like construct named the Bone Walker of Desolation. Holding the center of this powerful army was Rax with a hungry sword.
One of the more interesting special forces employed in this battle were the Princes of Blood. This group comprised 13 samurai vampires of Hlotho Zîn, each donned in ornate eastern style full plate and wielding soul-damning weapons.
On the last night of the military action, the Marrow Fields were bathed in the ominous glow of Deaths Kindle. This infrequent event, the Shade of Darkness, bolstered the undead armies of the Black Tide and made necromantic spells very strong. With broken lines on the rise, undead running amok in the supply lines, the Farinteen Alliance retreated in good order, though leaving 9,000 dead on the battlefield.
