The moon Deaths Kindle produces two necromantic events during its appearance in the skies above Bal-Kriav. The more frequent of these two events is a period called the Shade of Darkness.
In the first year of each new decade, the moon Deaths Kindle appears in the skies above Bal-Kriav. Its baleful glow is visible for 150 days. This period is a time of darkness and evil, with necromancy and undead activity at its peak. Necromantic spells are stronger (DC bonus +4) and undead creation, such as animate dead functions at four levels greater than normal. Undead have a turning resistance of +2.
