Air Motes are composed of oxygen and air energy. Some are just trace amounts, enough though to be an ingredient for Vessels of Free Air, while others are the engines that feed never-ending storms.
Air motes are also used in making long bridges or keeping things aloft, and providing lift for some airships. For larger structures, like a floating tower, it is more common to use earth motes having anti-gravity properties. Air motes are a cheaper alternative for supplying air on voidships and other things operating in hostile environments. They are used as ventilation, bringing in new air, while somewhere else it is pumped out.
Some air motes have surface which can be used for building holds. Most of the time, these float with the winds, requiring considerable magic to anchor them to an area; usually done by controlling the weather around. Those with surfaces are cloudy places either the build-able area above the cloud or concealed within it.
