As the stuff of Chaos, remnants of Creation, elemental motes don't always follow the rules of the world around it. A fire mote, as long as it has oxygen, has the potential to burn for hundreds, some thousands of years, and some earth motes have anti-gravity properties, ignoring the downward pull of the world around them. Some water motes are eternal springs, and some air motes eternal storms.
