Aarakocra, largely hidden today, often dwell in remote mountain tops or among floating islands called earth motes. In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), they were created to serve as scouts for the Nawirrûs Covenant. They were highly prized for combat operations requiring quickness and numbers.
An aarakocra's skill in flight came from them being purposely built by Corellon. They very to serve the Covenant as fast avian scouts, given vision 5x that of the Wood Elf and double the hearing. They served the cause again in the Demon Spawn War (8972 GE - 9493 GE) . When this was done, like so many other mortal races, they were released into the wild.
Aarakocra are inherently good. Like normal birds, they have varying plumage. Their characteristics often match too, with one with a red plumage like a cardinal being watchful, staying at distance and approaching only after it seems safe. Then there are those with the feathers and the head of an owl, awake at night, and asleep in the day.
