Aarakocra, largely hidden today, often dwell in remote mountain tops or among floating islands called earth motes. In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), they were created to serve as scouts for the Nawirrûs Covenant. They were highly prized for combat operations requiring quickness, some have said they were even sought over winged celestials, leading to a rivalry that sometimes turning bloody. The Aarakocra skill in flight came from them being purposely built by the archangel Corellon. They were made to serve a role, very fast avian scouts. As a result, their vision is 5x that of the average celestial, double the hearing, and speed at least 20% better. They again saw service in the Demon Spawn War, but after this conflict they were released into the wild. Like other mortal races, they scattered across the Mortal Systems to begin the Age of Mortal Civilizations.
Aarakocra are inherently good, but there is an off-shoot of this race called the Ble-Aarakocra. They were the elite city guard of Uriall-Madiess before it was swallowed into the Web of Magic. Several dozen of them escaped the destruction, yet were mentally scarred from it. Afterwards, they came to favor their predatory side as raptors rather than a balance of their humanoid and avian side like true aarakocra.
Aarakocra have varying plumages like normal birds of the wild. Their characteristics often match too, with one with a red plumage like a cardinal being watchful, staying at distance and approaching only after it seems safe. Then there are those with the feathers and the head of an owl. They are awake at night, and sleep during the day. Their combat tactics also match their bird type with owl and parrot-headed ones preferring up-close air-to-ground combat.
