Vistlod, created in the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), spills a steady stream of lava from openings along the mountain's south and western flanks. Each a great spillway encased by an ancient fortress, they were built to stem the tide of demons coming north, the vanguard hordes of Demogorgon. In the Demon Spawn War, on the side of the Covenant, the peak of Vistlod and the other volcanoes of the surrounding region and many others, served as strong points under the leadership of a primordial named Surtur. In the book Square Nails, the author laments at length over Surtur's impregnable bastions, mountains of fire resistant to siege as long as they remained linked to that Great Vein of Surtur.
Vistlod and the sister volcano named Trylming, are together called the Daughters of Surtur. Both of these volcanoes have super-hardened bases with lava tubes descending into the Pools of Geintar.
