Ophudehk was founded by aboleth escaping Oomkaan's genocidal campaign against them. Oomkaan's kuo-toa had long forbidden the presence of aboleth in their city. Looking to bring the other city-states of Blibdoolpoolp Bosom under one rule, Oomkaan instigated a war with Blipool and Moolowik. The basis of this conflict was a "bogey-man threat" posed by their minority aboleth population. Being a highly intelligent race, the aboleth served as thinkers, specializing in math, medicine and other high sciences. The fact that they did not worship any gods, was another reason for the conflict. Some even claim it was Blibdoolpoolp taking revenge on the people that created her.

In 980 LE, Ophudehk undertook a study of Sathubas's water table. They determined that the three aboleth city-states would reach their maximum sustainable population in five centuries. They developed a plan to siphon off some of the water from above, re-channeling downward to Sathubas's ponds, streams and lakes. In area's of Imgangreth under the control of others, they did this very secretly, and to a degree that it would not draw too much attention.

Nearing the end of the Lith-Crillion Era, the great lake around Ophudehk had become a sea, and many caves and tunnels were now underwater. Seeing the waters rise ever so slowly, many of Sathubas's non-aboleth packed up and left for dryer land. The holdouts, water lapping at the edge of their settlements, became easy pickings for their aquatic foes. At Akalgas, the rising water table was thwarted by series of water wheels and canals called the Akalgas Wheel.
