The Grand Arcanes was a faction of both the Nawirrûs Covenant and the Quara'tun Covenant. They were purveyors of arcane lore, enchanters, and practitioners of the arcane. They are best known for the development and deployment of the Cubes of Arcane; devices that greatly expedited the process of creating new worlds.
The Grand Arcanes started the schooling of those interested in all things magic. This spread to many worlds and regions, building a cadre for the fight against the primordials in the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE) and then the fiends of the Demon Spawn War (8972 GE - 9493 GE). Today, sixty-two of these ancient schools are still active across the universe. One of the more notable is Magis Institute on the world of Bal-Kriav.
Most say the Grand Arcanes along with its parent body, the Quara'tun Covenant, disbanded at the end of the Demon Spawn War; others say the Grand Arcanes function at level far above the schools it secretly oversees, at a galactic level with these places a limb of a complex organization always on the watch for powerful forces that could bring on another great war.
