One of the fatalities of the Onyx Enmity War (915 - 920) was the city-state of Sigatharkin. Like other areas in the vicinity of the sea floor breach, it was submerged with the draining of the Nermanis Sea. Those that could, escaped south to Gebs Foothills and the vassal city-state of Nurum-Maluk. Bolstered by refugees, many of them soldiers, veterans of many battles with the drow of Ilaleztice, the people of Nurum-Maluk, particularly the Mîmêk, rebelled against their Âkhi overlords. Nurum-Maluk proclaimed itself a free city-state.

On 5 War March 931, the Zandûl-Khâl Monarchy was established under Queen Zandûl. Once a private of the army of Sigatharkin that witnessed the draining of the Nermanis Sea, she was now the supreme authority. She carried on war when it was necessary. Admiring drow tactics, she preferred more subtle ways at defeating one's enemy. After victories on the field, against a foe much larger, the Queen got the Âkhi to see them as equals. No longer seen as a vassal, this made trade with the Âkhi a little more fair. Today, the two are each others largest trading partners.

While war was going on with the Âkhi, the kingdom expanded to the northwest, gobbling up towns and villages that once answered to the Âkhi. The largest of these, Troghaven, gave the kingdom easy access to deeper subterranean tiers.

If you ever hear the sound of rushing waters, it may well be the Torrent of Nermanis, still carrying the debris of Sigatharkin and countless others brought to ruin.

- Inzâg, inn-keeper in Nurum-Maluk - "Torrent of Nermanis"

In the Second Epoch, priests of the Khazarkar Empire began spreading the word of Set in the kingdom. Over the next twenty years, the Church of Set became one of the four powerful churches of the kingdom.

Zandûl-Khâl's Gradorian population are descendants of Draguron.
