Vîlnên is a subterranean empire spanning three subterranean tiers. From the top, in the Maleddanar Region the nation began as a monarchy, forged after the two-year war between Garâl-Thûru and the rival city-state of Galir-Khizad. After the war ended, guerrilla fighters, mostly Mîmêk and Derro, vowed to keep fighting till the liberation of Galir-Khizad.

The Mîmêk, especially the die-hard devil worshipers, were the most troublesome. Their raids were done more for capturing people than plunder. The captives were then sacrificed to a diabolical lackey in service to Asmodeus.

The wickedness and dark beliefs of our foes, bred the crusaders. Fanatics of Geb, the church spurred the people to war. They vowed to liberate the Mîmêk and Derro from otherworldly influences.

- Splint, Svirfneblin of the 2nd Recon Legion, war journal - "Prelude to War"

The First Geb Crusade, a decade long war, ended up with nearly twenty-thousand in chains. A dark period in Vîlnên's history, many of those captured ended up in indoctrination camps and doled out to labor projects across a sprawling, inefficient and increasingly corrupt empire.

In the Galir-Khizad Uprising (461 HE - 464 HE), Galir-Khizad broke with Vîlnên.

Today, the most hotly contested area of Vîlnên and Taklumlode is Zirâg-Tharam; an area of vast mineral wealth and religious significance to the Church of Geb.
