The Eärendur tribes are xenophobic wood elves home to the valleys and evergreen forests nestled in the Inghild Mountains. The Eärendur are renown for their guerrilla tactics, with fast runners and flankers geared out in an array of magic items, specialized for ambushing their foes. There mode of warfare goes way back, to a time when they served under the future god Athena as light infantry. This was also the time they began becoming more chaotic.
The wood elves of the Eärendur tribes have more entropic energy in them than the normal Wood Elf. They claim this came about in the Demon Spawn War. In this conflict between the forces of Law and those of Evil, a wood elf division serving under then archangel Athena was operating in sector Lirgaza. In this area her forces battled Demogorgon's invasion. Nobody is sure when it came about, but the chaos taint of the Eärendur tribes is thought to have come from spending too much time in the proximity of Abyssal forces.
After the Demon Spawn War, the Eärendur settled down in the Isaril Forest. During the reign of the Kal-Oni Empire, loggers began to take their toll on the forest. Isaril's trees were very old, its hard woods much desired for making hulls for Kal-Oni's growing navy. While the other native races of Hells Womb were coming around to accepting the Kal-Oneans as neighbors, the Eärendur viewed them as environmentally destructive. Overconsumption led to conflict with Eärendur battling the Kal-Oni in guerrilla fashion for several decades.
In 1140, the Eärendur city-state Yis-Lorill, fell to two armies, with Kal-Oni's forces attacking by day, and drow allies out of Dhaunril'yraen attacking by night. The decision had been made to make it costly to take, yet not to die for the city. Most of Eärendur's population and soldiers escaped into the forest, through tunnels and other secretive paths that even today remain hidden. Yis-Lorill's leaders and populace were in agreement, they were boxed in by civilization, the wildness of the area was gone. They abandoned their ancient city, heading east towards the Dragon Wall. They lived as nomads for the next four centuries. In 1503, they settled down near the center of Miradelgûn, in Inghild's evergreen valleys.
Melora is the patron deity of many Eärendur.
