After Tiamat's defeat in the First Dragon Wake (9251 GE - 9269 GE), many former non-demon enemies were pardoned by the Covenant. This swamp became the home of some of Tiamat's ex-soldiers, the most notable being three black and two green dragons. Young at the time, by the middle of the Lith-Crillion Era, they were known as the Scheming Five, running gambling dens, selling poisons, slaving, extortion and a general nuisance to all those around. Eventually splitting up as independent crime bosses, they carried out a series of conflicts, wrecking their businesses and leaving everyone looking over their shoulders. Having enough of the skulduggery, the green dragons gave up their interests, shifting operations north into Marzaaniik Gosvah. The black dragons and their minions held sway over the area until the death of the black dragon Emelach in 863 HE.
The largest hold of the area, a den of debauchery where anything is for sale, is the city-state of Valdrek Jusk.
