The Sprocket is a road network built by the Mir'piamauza Empire (526 HE - 1612 HE). Built over five centuries, it connected the major holds of the empire, from their close allies of Gulfrek Hjard in the north, to Kathodrarg of the western fjords, to the tropical coasts of Tyk-Culten. It began as roads to the Demon Boot mines, areas rich in adamantine and gold. The remoteness of many of these mines led to the building of hundreds of bridges and tunnels, and places to protect the flow of tons of precious ore.
After the Mir'piamauza Civil War (1608 HE - 1612 HE), the road was left to whoever could maintain and control it. Today, parts are controlled by unwelcoming to visitors, or those charging tolls, or blocked by collapse. Near the major holds of The Sprocket, roads and paths are maintained and often patrolled.
