In the Demon Spawn War (8972 GE - 9493 GE), the Covenant had a command center on Denellûth. On this mystical island, the Covenant general Athena had six trustworthy handmaidens. They helped her put on her god-forged armor, sharpen her holy blades and other basic tasks. When Athena was away, they worked the forge, building weapons and armor for the Covenant war effort.

When Asmodeus was cast out, becoming a Fallen Angel (9414 GE), he sent forth teams of assassins against those who turned against him at his hearing. They were suicide missions, only done to make a statement of Asmodeus's reach and deep planning. Athena's handmaidens at Denellûth fell victim to these assassins. Duty bound by magical ritual, six spirits found their way back through the Hall of Hades, returning to Denellûth where they continued to forge armaments, but could no longer personally serve Athena.

It was a flaw in the Duty Bound Ritual, a product of a chaotic mind, sometimes they come back to serve, other times they return to serve the greater interest that the caster serves. For my Denellûth handmaidens, it was the Covenant.

- from Athenas Notes on the Primordial Rituals - "The Greater Good"

In the Angelic Departure (9494 GE - 9500 GE), Athenas Handmaidens were trapped at Denellûth. Like ghosts, they manifest only to forge, or help others forge, great holy items. In the Lith-Crillion Era they learned to become enchanters, greatly adding to the power of their crafted items. In the First Epoch, there ability to enchant powerful items earned them the name Six Arcane.

Every seven years, the Six Arcane are able to move to another forge of the Lands of Purity for seven months. They only go to areas of good, with Tirulûmâs Beacon being the most frequented.

The Six Arcane are also proselytizers. When helping others forge great magic items, they are notorious for preaching the word of Athena, and are quite effective at creating converts.

As a guild, the original six, Athenas Handmaidens, serve as teachers of the forge and enchanting. They cannot interact in a capacity beyond that, teaching is actually doing work, with lectures between forge work.
