Gelok Himdah is Draconic for Lifted Land. It got this name in the God Era, when pockets of the land were ripped free, floating upwards where they became sky isles. This happened in the First Dragon Wake (218 GE - 235 GE) when armies of Tiamat battled those of Bahamut. To counter the larger flying army of her foe, Tiamat used a powerful rod named Volfdir Jollrod, turning clumps of land into earth motes. On these floating islands, Tiamat's army built a network of fortifications with dangling hooks and invisible nets. Most of these air dangers are now gone, but some can be heard on windy days, banging against the rocks or whistling on the winds.
The area of Gelok Himdah is still broken from the time when it was the last great battlefield between Tiamat and Bahamut. The fortifications of that time are mostly overgrown ruins. Some of the sky islands serve as the lairs of manticore, chimera, dragons, rocs, and other flying predators. The land below these floating isles are massive craters, some ponds and lakes, others cavities into the dark reaches below.
