The first hell knight was Raxcvillibus Dumu-loc. In his making, he was infused with negative energy by Thasmudyan and hellfire by Asmodeus. The cumulation of their experiment resulted in a variant of the death knight with greater strength and powers.
Rax, more formerly Emperor Raxcvillibus Dumu-Loc, is no normal death knight. He is a hell knight, a product of negative energy infused into him by Thasmudyan and infernal energies provided by Hell's Overlord, Asmodeus. These two dark lords created him for no other reason than to see if it could be done. Of course, they each had a hidden agenda: to outwit the other, and get a champion to do their bidding. On 11 Bloom 1462, the mortal Raxcvillibus pledged his soul energy to them, and they turned him into an immortal undead hell knight.

A hell knight has the power to create other death knights. Raxcvillibus has been a hell knight (c.f. 11 Bloom 1462) for a little more than 370 years, and is said to have 8 to 12 death knights under his command. The maximum number is thought to be based on his time as a hell knight, but nobody is sure since he is the only known hell knight in existence.
A hell knight can transfer his touch attack through any metals found in the Hells, like arjale, tantulhor, or those constructed of bonebrack.
A hell knight combines the qualities of a death knight and a devil. Some of these qualities of the hell knight template are listed here:

Abyssal Blast
Rax holds his sword up to meet a great leathery wing smashing down towards him. He channels negative energy, calling forth the dark magic added to him when he became a hell knight. The dragon's wing is met with a blast of bitterly cold, life-devouring entropy.
