The Stone Wardens is an order of Geb devotees dedicated to countering the fiery machinations of Surtur. This conflict between Geb and Surtur takes place mostly in the Underdark. The Stone Wardens claim that Surtur seeks to flood the world with fire and brimstone, and unleash the lava from the core of Bal-Kriav. Geb operates against this plan, collapsing tunnels and passages with earthquakes, erecting walls of stone and redirecting the lava into great rifts where the stuff cools and solidifies.
One of the areas where the Stone Wardens used the Great Vein of Surtur for their own purposes was at Mazâd-Khâl. In this area, miners of the Ivory Asylum were tearing the area apart and plundering the riches from the deeps. The Earth Valve was opened, unleashing a torrent of lava and gas upon the area.
