Urkell is fed by waters coming down the slopes of Zan Urk and from from subterranean canals that spill out of cliffs on the lake's northeastern edge. This area of the lake is littered with giant boulders and rocks. A steep slope of the same rises upwards towards the walls of the great fortress Tas'dvr Mout. This bastion is built into the side of a collapsed mountain. The rest of the mountain is scattered across this slope and in the lake.
In the Lith-Crillion Era and into the Horgon Era, Zan Urk was a haven for vampires. The victims of these creatures were often tossed into the canals ending up in the lake. Many of these victims were demons out of Varelay. The lake is said to be haunted from all the dead that ended up in it.
