Urkúmph was at one time rolling, verdant hills. The opening of the Ungorth Reddik Road, and the ensuing chaotic energy that poured into Turgon caused these hills to become misshapen and turned the grasses a sickly yellow. Later, demons discovered coal deposits under the hills. Having little use for the black rocks, they used their elven and Graagvrii slaves to build chimneys, whereupon they set fire to the coal. Over forty of these chimneys, some straight, others twisted or built at angles dot the chaotic landscape. The coal fires have been burning for centuries, covering the area with soot, palls of smoke, and noxious fumes.
