The Lich Front was a mini-war within a much larger war called the Chaos War.

In 1832, the Tormoran Federation allied with the Black Tide of Thasmudyan under the Sekbire Pact. In the last half of the same year, in and around Korbortun, the Pact's armies mobilized for war. They numbered between 40,000 and 60,000 soldiers.

At the request of help from the Orchish Empire under Monty the Mad, the Pact split their army into two. One army headed east towards the Toomrur Hegemony city Khatúlg. The other army moved by land and the Dargirth river towards the contested Orchish city Gúluzgash.

On 21 Artifice, hostilities started between the Pact and the Toomrur Hegemony.

In 1833, the Pact forces that went west came into conflict with the Council of Bile. The purpose of this campaign was to take pressure off the Orchish Empire who at the time was suffering from an internal conflict, battling the Khazarkars in the Cinazan Front, and those opposing them in the Grashakh Front.
