Dotted with bits of crystal, Echo Stones are rock that amplify the sound around them. A one pound rock affects and area 2' in diameter, a ten pound rock would amplify the sounds within 20'. This results in all sounds being increased by 50%, a whisper becomes loud talking, yelling like the crack of lightning. It is used as a detection measure in some vaults, palaces, and areas that you want to protect from thieves or spies.
At the northern tip of Shadow Rift is an area called The Deafening. Home of the largest salt mine for hundreds of miles, it is also surrounded by innumerable echo stones. Making matters worse is a great waterfall plunging 2,200 feet; requiring protective gear to avoid the loss of one's hearing.
