Prisoners of the Har'kish Empire are often cruelly tortured, mind probed, and those deemed useful are programmed through psychic surgery to follow the whims of their masters. After this special treatment, the programmed slave becomes known as a Drone of Gith; named in honor of the Githyanki hero Gith.
Har'kish psionicists, masters in reshaping other's minds, instill within the drone, three prime directives:

- Not to attack, injure, or inflict pain on a githyanki
- To follow the orders of a githyanki of the rank of Gish or higher
- To serve the githyanki race to the best of their ability
