In the Dawn Era, Githyon served as an advisor to Ptah. Like his master and teacher, he was deep into the study of psychic energy. His experiments led to the psionic methods known today as Energy Exchange, whereby a subject's energy composition is exchanged with other energy types.
In 2219 DE, in a secret lab on Ghífthauk, he created the first Githzerai and a couple days later, the first of the Githyanki race. These new races were created from earth archons, exchanging the archon's Earth Energy with Life Energy. This was morally questionable work, leading to the Covenant forbidding further use of Energy Exchange except to Redeem those corrupted.
