Nîndûnturgac was established by the drow refugees of Runelderil. In the Onyx-Enmity War, Runelderil was nearly wiped out, losing 90% of its population when the Nermanis Sea began flooding their territory. The Runelderil refugees went northeast and founded the settlement of Ghaundan. A few groups did not join up with their kin at Ghaundan and instead went to Mulun-Dûna.
Nîndûnturgac is atypical of drow societies. The empire has a long line of rule by males which dates to the civil wars that occurred in Runelderil. Worship of Lolth is unheard of in the empire. Worship of the Demon Queen disappeared more than a thousand years ago and has been unable to make its way into the drow society of Nîndûnturgac. In the Second Epoch, priests of the Khazarkar Empire began spreading the word of Set into Ghaundan. When several drow houses tried to stop the proselytizers of Set, they were wiped out by forces backed by the Khazarkar Empire. These houses, and rightly so, believed that the Khazarkar Empire were using religion to infiltrate their society and turn them into a puppet state. Geb is another of the city's deities. Worship of him spread to the Nîndûnturgac by way of a powerful Church of Geb located at Mulun-Dûna.
