The Irastâ tribe came to prominence late in the Horgon Era. They roamed the Shathirmun plains, closer to the wild than any other Elderaunt tribe. Some say the Terraces of Mêzelurûs, named for the god that perished at Mizzen, had something to do with their closeness with nature.
The Irastâ were the first people of Irastânâz to employ elephants as steeds and in work. At the time, this was a strange thing for the Elderaunts, because they were best known for being seafarers. The Irastâ were also the first Elderaunt tribe to practice shamanic and druidic ways. This too has been attributed to the Terraces of Mêzelurûs.
In the First Epoch, the rise of the elderaunt warlord Jurmalon and the ideals of Elephant Reverence came about. In the origin myth Elephant Reverence, the Irastâ attempted to cover-up the shameful beginnings of their race, and at the same time elevate the one who had come from their tribe, Jurmulon, to mythical status. When Jurmulon founded Ivory Asylum in 921, many believed the myth that they had come about from the ashes of Ilušur and Thunderous Walker. This falsehood was not seriously disputed, and is still not today, with many preferring a glorious beginning rather than one under the boot of Hydrocur lab coats.
For centuries, the Irastâ were adherents to the ideals of Elephant Reverence, but then in the Second Epoch, seeing their tribe fall technologically behind, and becoming poor while the coastal tribes became rich, they took a new path. From 1012 to 1020, they looted the sacred tusks that littered Irastânâz. The ivory was shipped out of country, becoming flooring in Zayr's palace, decorating Merorarg's hero statues, and even "baser ways", like adorning the hilt and pommel of pirate blades; all in ways that most Elderaunts are customarily against. Ivory Asylum's highest court of law built a case against Irastâ and they were punished. The entire tribe was exiled, sent to Anutoth to administer the newly found settlement Tâchumâz (est. 18 Lunar 1020). For over a century they managed this city. Their commercial rival was Salandirik. Those that managed this rival city, both Ivory Asylum "colonial outposts", would be their undoing.
In 1125, the Irastâ lost their charter to Tâchumâz. This was the result of the ruinous state of their finances and that of the city they were tasked to manage for the good of Ivory Asylum. Seen as a possible threat to the incoming tribe set to manage the city, the Irastâ and their 5,000+ members were made to leave the city. They spent the next five years re-settling Yarrokhal, but then suddenly packed up and moved.
In 1130, they crossed the Kimaris mountains, entering the wastes of the Broken Lands. Looking to escape a magical storm, they took refuge in the Thegildreon ruin. In this corrupted place they were corrupted by abyssal energies. They became fiendish in nature, forgetting the Langurâpha language, replacing it with the hateful sounding Abyssal tongue. Irastâ's elderaunts were no longer the same race, physically and mentally changed by fell energies, they became known as the Maleraunts.
The Irastâ, a tribe of elderaunts, were warped and mutated by Thegildreon's baleful energies. They can no longer be called Elderaunts, infused with abyssal energies, I propose we name this new Elderaut sub-race the Maleraunts.
