Hellstones are the hardest gems known, many have survived hammer blows and weapon attacks unscathed. These gems are lit by an inner, flickering radiance, and do damage to non-evil creatures (and half-damage to non-lawful creatures of evil) upon the slightest touch. They cause 1-4hps +1hp per level of the creature touched (Fortitude DC16 to resist all damage). The sometimes-called "Doomstones" are very rare, found only on the world Nessus. Prolonged handling of these stones is though to cause a shift in alignment towards lawful evil.
