Cibothrâr is a geothermal swamp of the Northern Hordelands. It is fed by the melting snow, glaciers and heavy rains which are common to this region. The cold waters flowing into this wetland join with the boiling and smoking pools of a highly active geothermal zone. The swamp is dotted with geysers and small volcanic cones. The most violent eruptions occur when the water levels reach a height where they flow into the volcanic cones, producing jets of steam thousands of feet high. Sometimes, the pressure is so great that the volcanic mounds explode in a thunderous roar, frightening the numerous herd animals and other beasts that come to the area for water or to hunt.
