Barândîr is a glacial valley of southern Gulimbor. The azure colored ice of this place is unnatural both in color and texture. The properties of the ice were caused when Sakazrân Garbanâth destroyed the Sceptre of Phenul-Tamrâk. The destruction of the artifact tripled the size of the glacier. This led to the stabilization and then dissipation of the magical weather patterns of Gulimbor. Over the next three decades, the lands of Gulimbor were in many ways returned to the way it was before the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203).
Footfalls on the deeper areas of Barândîr sometimes cause cracks in the ice that ring with a soft and long chiming sound. Avalanches produce a much louder chiming sound that echoes for miles. The frigid and often stormy conditions of the glacier make travel in the place very dangerous. Temperatures in the southern reaches of Barândîr range from -20 to -50 degrees.
Buried deep beneath the glacial wastes of this area are Borillisk ruins.
Nearly a thousand years ago, a powerful psionic experiment was undertaken at Mîras-Sûr. This resulted in disaster that unleashed a torrent of psychic energy across a large area. As a result, some creatures of the valley became phyrenic.
