In one of the battles of the Creation War, Surtur was dismounted from his flaming war chariot. In the ensuing battle, he was separated from it and ended up being driven from the battlefield by the angelic forces opposing him. One of those angels was Ares. Since the weapon was considered a product of chaos, his allies refused to claim it as booty. Ares, on the other hand quipped:
This is a weapon of war, and not some chaos infused device. Surtur built it to rain fiery destruction on his enemies and not plant the seeds of chaos with it. So, I'm taking it and will figure out later how to ride it without being turned to ash.
