The Book of Pawns was penned by the demon lord Orcus. It had the names of all demons, except the unnamed ones like the manes, serving under him in the Demon Spawn War. In addition to having the power over these demons by knowing their true names, it also gave those that handled it and bound with a ritual the ability to track them. This tracking was limited to their location within ten miles, at which point the tracker had to use normal means of closing in on them. When Ghak fell to angelic forces, the unholy book fell into angelic hands. Bahamut personally sanctified this book, removing its fell influences and making it useful for tracking down demons listed in the book. After the Angelic Departure (9494 GE - 9500 GE), which saw all the celestials leave the Mortal Systems, the Book of Pawns was turned over to the holy order Pruziig Sken. They used the book in the Lith-Crillion Era to track down and terminate demons leftover after Orcus was driven back to the Abyss.
