In the Year 52, wood elf colonists of the Ancalimë Kingdom came through the Oaken Gate, leaving behind their mother country on the other side of the world. They arrive in what was then more commonly called Phiyel, taking up residence in the Elberial Forest. Numbering only several hundred, they would not build a major settlement until 14 Artifice 84 with the founding of Hanthaerion.
Hanthaerion sits astride the Faldelmar River. By way of this river, they can trade with settlements along the inland sea Galathien and south to the Pearl Sea and beyond.
In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1504), Hanthaerion was abandoned, its people forced out by the fiery devastation brought on by a dragon orb. This device, wielded by the Black Tide leader Katrana, created two unnatural volcanoes whose eruptions devastated the forest around the city.
Today, Hanthaerion is even more stunning and beautiful than it was before the Black Tide War. It has vast woodland parks, streams, and monumental buildings decorated with statues, poems, and murals honoring the heroes of the Black Tide War and the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551). Most the city, including the walls are made entirely of a wood that is equal in hardness to iron. This wood, Ironhue, is the city's most prized export.
